Borama District
As the center and heart of the Awdal region, Borama is a cosmopolitan hub of commerce, education, and community. Borama is the largest city and most populous district in Awdal with around 500,000 residents. Because education is one of the pillars of the region, there are many universities including Amoud University, one of the leading universities in horn of Africa. The district is home to Aden Isaaq International Airport, although it is currently under construction. The city of Borama is a rapidly growing, and it’s boundaries creeping further and further into the valleys of the mountains surrounding it. These mountains and valleys are highly resourceful with abundances of gold, gemstones, and other precious metals and minerals. Borama is also rich in political and cultural history; the district once had its own script called the Borama or Gadabuursi script. Notable cities such as Tulli and Quljeed are just around the corner. As farming is a huge part of Borama district livelihood, one can watch over mile-stretching fields of fruits and vegetables when traveling the highway connecting these cities.
